The Puget Sound Regional Archives would be an excellent place to order nice copies of the photos. They have the property record cards from 1936 or 1937 to 1972. You can contact them at: 425-564-3940. Their website is http://www.sos.wa.gov/archives/archives_puget.aspx. Please be aware that getting a print from the archives is not free.

Terrific post. I'd love to see some expansion on the details. Amazing to think of the transformation in so few years.

My father, Bert Swift Sr, used to be a greenskeeper at the Olympic Club, working four hours in the morning mowing greens, fixing divots, and seeding the fairways before he went off to work as a Linotype operator at the Seattle Times.

I used to caddy there while in junior high school. We recieved 35 cents for nine holes, or 50 cents for full eighteen. There were no golf carts, gas or electric in those days, and pull carts were rare.

In the winter, we sledded and skiid down the hills

Many thanks to Heidi Madden who researched and contributed this great article about the Golf Course. We're looking for historical photos of the golf course or the Army gun emplacement, or early life in Olympic Manor. If you've got something to share and add to the article, please contact dennis@crownhillneighbors.org

If you know of other Crown Hill stories, history, persons of interest, or want to suggest something which might be interesting to research and publish on the website, please contact me dennis@crownhillneighbors.org

Sara, that is because the original projects as submitted in 2007 did not include that block. The street on the one block between Holman and 95th is only half the normal width for a street, so that does pose challenges for pedestrians.

There is planned a walkway along the east edge of the park (see the article on the new park design). Additionally a walkway is planned along the eastern edge of the new Small Faces playground (see the article on the new playground design).

The situation is definitely not ideal, but the property for the unbuilt half of the street plus the SDOT easement and alignment with the overpass add some complications.

According to this article, there will be no walkway on 13th Ave NW, between Holman Road and 95th. Is that correct? Do we know why this one block was left out?
