A group of neighbors riding on the coattails of the Walkable Crown Hill Project recently received a City of Seattle Neighborhood Matching Fund grant to make some streetscape improvements for both walkability and improved appearance. The neighbors live on the dead end of Mary Ave NW, north of NW 100th Street. The grant was approved for approximately $4500.
Originally they were going to split the money between two projects: 1) 2 rockery planters in front of two residences on Mary; and 2) Steps with landscaping to more safely and aesthetically connect NW 103rd and Mary Ave NW. The second project became mired in an issue of liability for falls on the steps, so the neighbors went back to the city and received approval to use that money to build two more rockery planters on Mary Ave NW.
The Walkable Crown Hill Report is available here. Neighbors are encouraged to look at this report and submit additional grants for similar projects which encourage walkability, and improve traffic and pedestrian safety. For information, contact Dennis or Bert.
