In your mailbox in the last few days was an issue of a newspaper The Journal. Included inside the issue was the invaluable 2011 Crown Hill Business Directory. The directory is published by the Crown Hill Business Association, and includes listings for nearly all Crown Hill Businesses.

The striking cover art was created by Crown Hill’s own Cynthia Burrell who was inspired by the sculptures at Home and Garden Art:

Crown Hill resident and artist Cynthia Burrell found inspiration for this year’s playful cover at the Home and Garden Art store. Located in the heart of Crown Hill at 85th Street NW and First Avenue, it’s hard to miss the eclectic mix of merchandise that populates this unique business. “I love the giant, colorful metal chickens out front,” says Burrell. “To me they represent the welcome and rural feeling of Crown Hill and hint at the many local gardens that may enjoy their own flock of hens.” Home and Garden Art has been a family operated business for the past ten years, founded by Jim and Lisa Honold, who met and married in Loyal Heights. The store is replete with over 5,000 items that range from the whimsical to the practical with a bent toward the artistic. More than 50 local artists plus others from around the country supply Home and Garden Art with decorative wares. “We love to support the art community,” notes Jim. Many of the store’s creations are custom fabricated by Jim and brother Brandon, while Lisa often supplies the creative ideas and design. At the recent 2011 Northwest Flower and Garden Show, Jim was honored with the “People’s Choice” award in the featured Garden Gate competition with his innovative solar powered metal and stained glass entry gate.
