New Crown Hill T-shirts Are Here!

Crown Hill Neighbors has received new Crown Hill T-shirts in a variety of sizes and colors, just in time for the holidays.

You and members of your family or block can show your Crown Hill pride in navy shirts with green lettering or charcoal shirts with light grey lettering. We still have many children’s tees in pale blue with chocolate lettering and a very limited number of the adult T-shirts in chocolate with blue lettering.

Crown Hill T-Shirts

These are one-of-a-kind tees that you can’t get anywhere else!

These T-shirts are wonderful stocking stuffers or perfect presents for friends or good neighbors. And you can get them one of two ways. You can buy them for only $20 for adults /$10 for children OR you can get one free when you sign up to become a member of Crown Hill Neighbors.

Crown Hill Neighbors Annual Membership* is tax-deductible and provides your neighborhood association with the funding to advocate on your behalf for better community services , as well as to host and participate in a variety of community events.

We’re including a free T-shirt in our $25/year annual membership fee through December 31, 2011.

For only $25 you can make a real difference in the Crown Hill community—whether it’s successfully advocating for our new Crown Hill Park (across from Dick’s), which will be open to the public this spring, or organizing the Crown Hill Community Garage Sale—your membership dollars are spent on making your community a better place to live.

You can reach Deb Jaquith at tshirts@crownhillneighbors.org or 206-660-1552 to check on availability and arrange for purchase of the tees. She can also take membership requests, or you can join online.

Already a member? You can take advantage of the free T-shirt promotion by extending your membership for another year. Visit our website and renew today.

*The fair market value of the T-shirt will be subtracted from your donation for tax deduction purposes.

NOTE: The T-shirts were screenprinted at Blue Rhino Graphics, a Crown Hill business.

Garage Sale and Night Out Wrap-up, 2011

We had great turnouts for both the Crown Hill Garage Sale on July 23rd and Night Out Seattle on August 2nd this year!

The 5th Annual Crown Hill Neighbors Garage Sale on July 23rd had 67 advance sign-ups this year. There were actually more sales and free sales. I made it to 46 of the sales.  My favorite sale this year was the 8 year old boy who decided to have a sale when a couple of his neighbors started putting their wares out. He was trying to raise $40 to help his sister replace her stolen bike. I checked back a week later and he made his goal!  There was great food to be had including Mt Fuji hot dogs, “possibly the best chocolate chip cookies in Crown Hill,” lemonade, and goodies galore (those lemon bars were really, really good). Of the 67 listings we had, 5 wouldn’t fit on our map, but we made them honorary Crown Hillers for the day. Traffic slowed to a crawl on many streets with multiple sales as cruisers walked from sale to sale. The folks on 16th between 87th and 89th deserve a special mention — they sure know how to have a multi-family garage sale — every one had a mix of great merchandise at bargain prices — and everybody was having fun talking to each other.  Thanks all and if you have comments, please get back to us at garagesale@crownhillneighbors.org

We had over a dozen block parties that I am aware of.  In my immediate neighborhood there were 4 parties blocking the streets, and there were a number of folk who walked to adjoining parties to share in the camaraderie and festivities. Children were seen zipping up and down the street on bikes, scooters, and foot as they enjoyed the freedom from vehicle traffic for an evening. Dogs were welcome at several of the parties (and at one, the whole group of herding dogs took noisy exception in unison to a child’s attempt to jump on a pogo stick). As always, the food was fabulous, and as is the case in potlucks, there was more than enough to go around. We’ve had a rough summer with crime, and it was great to see folk getting to know each other. MyBallard had an article featuring various parties around Ballard, and Crown Hill scored two pictures including the one at right! Next year, we’ve got to invite Engine 35 to come visiting!

Calling all Crown Hill Neighbors to participate in our Fifth Annual  CHNA Garage Sale.  The sale will be held on Saturday, July 23rd from 9 AM to 3 PM.  About 55 households participated last year with loads of cool stuff. Great way to meet your neighbors.

Is your house overflowing with clothes, furniture, toys, appliances, etc which could find a home with one of your neighbors or garage sale cruisers? Want an excuse to buy those 70’s bell bottom pants? Remember, one household’s junk is another’s treasure! This is your chance to buy or sell, and a wonderful opportunity to mingle with the crowds. Last year’s sale had about 55 participating selling households, and many more sale cruisers.

Do your kids need an excuse to set up a lemonade stand? This is a great opportunity. Last year, we had lemonade, coffee, cookies and cupcakes.

It’s definitely time to start setting your merchandise aside, and plotting joint sales with neighbors so you can take turns visiting other sales.

Questions about the sale, please contact: garagesale@crownhillneighbors.org or (206) 706-7663.
