Ribbon Cutting for Pathway from 89th to 90th, Wednesday, June 18th

City Council-member Mike O’Brien will be on hand to cut the ribbon for the completion of the pedestrian pathway upgrade from 89th to 90th at 17th. This is an early bird event, meeting at 8 AM the pedestrian pathway.

Neighbors living in West Crown Hill put together a NPSF (Neighborhood Parks and Streets Fund) proposal a few years ago to upgrade the path, and remove the barriers to make it possible to pass a stroller through and connect to the Soundview Playfields and Whitman Middle School.

The project was completed a couple of years ago.

Efforts are underway to secure funding to complete a greenway on 17th from 58th to 90th. The greenway will use the pathway to the play fields and Whitman Middle School. Another NPSF proposal is presently under review for funding to put a pedestrian activated signal at 17th and 85th to allow safer crossings of 85th.

Grand Opening Ceremony for 8th and 100th Intersection, Tuesday, June 17th

We’ve all been driving, cycling, walking through the new vastly improved intersection of 8th Ave NW, NW 100th St, and NW 100th Place since August last year. Come celebrate with our 36th District State Legislator, Gael Tarleton:

  • When: Tuesday, June 17th, 5-6 PM

A great chance to see some of your neighbors, say hi to Gael.

The intersection was revised to eliminate the free right swing for traffic northbound on 8th onto 100th Place. The Walkable Crown Hill effort identified this intersection as the number 2 priority for attention by the City.  The revision was dovetailed with King County Metro’s startup of the D-Line Rapid Ride service, which made 7th Ave NW one-way Northbound at Holman Rd, so the buses could use 100th Place and 3rd to turnaround back to Holman Rd. The intersection is  much safer now, that all northbound traffic on 8th must come to a full stop before proceeding.

New Crime Prevention Specialist in the North Precinct, Night Out Seattle 2014

Welcome aboard Elizabeth Scott, the SPD North Precinct’s new Crime Prevention Specialist. We received this e-mail yesterday.

As you now know, I was recently hired as the Crime Prevention Coordinator for all of North Seattle. My predecessor, Terrie Johnston will now be covering both the East and West Precincts.  Many of you have reached out to me welcoming me to my new job; I certainly do feel welcomed so THANK YOU!!!

The 30th Annual Night Out Against Crime is approaching, taking place on TUESDAY, AUGUST 5th, 2014. The registration link for Night Out, 2014 is now active. Please go to: http://www.seattle.gov/police/nightout/default.htm

Night Out is a national Crime Prevention event. It is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, increase neighborhood support in anti-crime efforts, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

Seattle has had a long history of supporting Night Out. The program has been growing every year, with over 1,400 neighborhoods participating in 2013. It’s fun, free and offers a great opportunity to reconnect with your neighbors, share information with one another all while learning more about crime prevention. You do not need to be in an active Block Watch to hold a Night Out event.  However, if you would like to form a block watch, please indicate that on your registration (we have a check box for that). 

Within the Night Out registration form, blocks are given the opportunity to close down the street. Please remember, in order to legally close the street a permit must be completed.

We look forward to seeing you at Night Out, 2014.

Night time work on Holman Rd, June 9th and 18th, 8PM to 7AM.

Be prepared for at least a couple of noisy nights on Holman as the contractors on the repave are going to be grinding down the concrete. This was received yesterday from Seattle Dept. of Transportation. More information on their website.

You are receiving this e-mail as a subscriber to the Holman Road NW Paving Project updates. Crews finished repairing and paving the bridge this past weekend, and sidewalk work in Zone 1 (between 7th Avenue NW and Greenwood Avenue N) is nearly complete. Preparations are now underway for grinding and repaving all lanes of Holman Road NW in Zone 1.

 The westbound lanes of Holman Road NW between 7th Avenue NW and Greenwood Ave N will be closed at 8 PM on Monday, June 9, with grinding scheduled for that night. Grinding will be noisy and is expected to last until 5 AM the next day. Paving work will follow and is expected to be complete on June 17. During this time, traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lanes of Holman Road NW, with one lane open in each direction.

 Grinding and paving work will then switch to the eastbound lanes of Holman Road NW, and traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes of Holman Road NW, where one lane will be open in each direction. Crews are scheduled to begin grinding the eastbound lanes the night of June 18, and paving is expected to be complete by June 27.

 Paving is weather dependent, and these dates are subject to change. We will update you if there are any changes to the construction schedule.

Holman Rd Closure Friday, May 30 8 PM to Saturday, May 31 6 PM, 2014

This is a reminder that Holman Rd will be closed from 8 PM on Friday to 6 PM on Saturday.

From the Seattle Dept of Transportation web site:

Full Closure of Holman Road NW: Holman Road NW will be closed to traffic in both directions between 9th Avenue NW and 7th Avenue NW from 8 PM on Friday, May 30, until 6 PM on Saturday, May 31, for bridge deck repairs. Drivers will be detoured via NW 85th Street and 3rd Avenue NW. Local bus access will be maintained during this closure.
