ARC Summer Dance at the Center
From ARC Dance:
It is now less than two weeks until the opening of ARC’s Summer Dance at the Center. There will be five new world premiers by choreographers from Mark Morris Dance Group, Whim Whim, and PNB, as well as Marie Chong, Artistic Director of ARC, and Betsy Cooper, resident choreographer for ARC. Our ten professional dancers have been working very hard to learn and perfect the dances. The dances are fun and thought provoking; the dancers are exciting and strong.
Murals of Crown Hill
Upon moving to Crown Hill in 2002, I noticed many blank walls on buildings, often tagged with graffiti, painted out graffiti, re-tagged, re-painted out, etc. What is it about a blank wall that encourages vandals to leave their marks? Our major streets, 15th Ave NW, Holman Road, and NW 85th Street appeared quite tired, even dreary. As new businesses have moved in, old businesses and new alike have taken to spiffing up their storefronts with bright colors, and … murals. Most recently the Value Village relocated a couple of doors south on 15th, and engaged the services of Seattle muralist, Ryan “Henry” Ward. Henry’s murals drew much attention in the press (MyBallard article, and even some television and radio coverage). It has certainly sparked lots of discussions among neighbors and passerby (as I snapped photos early on a Saturday morning, 6 people volunteered their opinions, four very positive, one negative, one shrug).
Value Village opens at new location
A festive reception and fashion show on March 3 marked the opening of the Value Village at their new location near the corner of 15th Ave NW and NW 85th St. Crown Hill Neighborhood Association board members and representatives of Crown Hill businesses were invited as well as other community representatives.
Jane Mansfield, spokesperson for Community Services for the Blind and Partially Sighted, spoke about the partnership and benefits that Value Village has brought to funding that organization.
On the fashion runway, Jason shows the casual musician look. Can this be the same Jason who is the Neighborhood Association Board President?
